Getting started
What is VPSie?
VPSie stands for "Virtualized provisioning and Smart Infrastructure Engine". We call every server a VPSie, and a group of servers VPSies. Say it as one word, the same way you say "Pepsi".
Why VPSie?
VPSie is a feature-rich, resilient cloud platform built for full automation. It is designed for today's compute demands, with a focus on modern design, security, reliability, scalability, recoverability and manageability. You can run on our public cloud or on a private cloud, backed by a 99.99% network and infrastructure uptime SLA.
Billing and credit
How is hourly billing calculated?
VPSie is prepaid and billed hourly for the resources you use. The hourly rate is the monthly price divided by 730, and your charges for a server never exceed its monthly price. Plans start from $5/month. To work out a plan's hourly rate, divide its monthly price by 730. Unused credit stays in your account for later use. Plans need 15 days' worth of credit to unlock. See https://vpsie.com/pricing/ for current plan prices.
What happens if I run out of credit?
VPSie is a prepaid service, so you need credit in your account for your resources to keep running. We send three automatic reminders when your balance is low, followed by three warnings that service is pending suspension. If no credit is added, servers are shut down automatically and their data, including any backups, is permanently deleted.
If I power off my server, am I still charged for it?
Yes. We bill for a server from the time you create it until you delete it. A stopped server still has its CPU, memory and storage reserved for you, even though it is not running.
Why do I see a $1 transaction on my bank statement?
When you add a credit card to your account, we make a $1 authorization charge on the card, following standard card authorization practice. The amount shown can vary by bank (from $0 to $5). Depending on your bank's policy, the amount is either credited to your VPSie account or refunded to your card.
Do you offer refunds?
No, we do not offer refunds. If you have an issue or a question, our team will be glad to help. Please open a support ticket.
Why do Windows servers cost more than Linux servers?
Most Linux distributions have no licensing cost. Microsoft charges a license fee for every Windows server.
Servers and plans
What CPUs does VPSie use?
We use only high-performance CPUs on our platform, so every customer gets excellent processing speed.
Can I scale my server up or down?
Yes. You can move your cloud server to a larger or smaller configuration at any time from the settings menu of your VPSie. Note that disk size can only be increased, not decreased.
Do you provide console access, and why might I need it?
Yes. You get direct console access to every VPSie from your account. You can log in to the server, run commands, watch and control the boot process, troubleshoot, or log in as a single user when needed.
What is the minimum plan for Windows Server?
Windows Server needs at least 16 GB of disk space and 2 GB of memory, so choose a plan that meets both minimums. See https://vpsie.com/pricing/ for plan specifications.
Networking and regions
Where are your datacenters?
VPSie offers ten regions on four continents: North America: New York, Virginia, California and Montreal. Europe: Amsterdam, Germany and Helsinki. Middle East and Asia: Dubai and Jordan. Africa: Djibouti.
How can I use private networking?
A private network is isolated from the public internet. When you create a VPSie you can choose one of three options: Public network only: your VPSie gets a public IP address only. Public and private network: your VPSie gets two IP addresses, one on the public internet and one on a dedicated private network segment assigned to you. Private network only: your VPSie gets an IP address within your dedicated private network segment and can reach any VPSie in that segment.
Backups and snapshots
What is the difference between backups and snapshots, and which do I need?
Whether you run development or production workloads, you need a way to roll back when something goes wrong. VPSie offers three options: Snapshots: taken manually from the VPSie actions screen. A snapshot is a recovery point you can revert to whenever you need. Snapshots are free, but they cannot be used for a full restore if the server is deleted or its disk layout changes. On-demand backups: taken manually from the VPSie actions screen. Each one is a full backup of your VPSie. Automatic daily backups: enabled when you create a VPSie, these take one full backup of your server every day. Backups are charged per GB; see https://vpsie.com/pricing/ for current rates. Other backup frequencies or retention policies are available on request. With either backup option, you can restore your VPSie or create a new VPSie (a clone) from the backup image.
Do you offer data backups?
Yes. You can add backups to any VPSie when you create it or at any time afterwards.
How safe is my data?
All data is stored on highly redundant infrastructure. We also offer automatic and on-demand backups that are stored off the host and offsite.
Security and abuse
How secure are VPSie services?
We follow industry standards and compliance regulations across all our operations. Security is a priority at every level, from software-based security controls to physical datacenter protection, to keep your data safe.
Do you allow outbound SMTP mail?
SMTP ports are blocked by default. We launched VPSie without blocking SMTP, but within days we received spam abuse reports and several of our IP addresses were blacklisted. Clearing them took significant time, so we now block SMTP by default. The block can be lifted case by case for verified accounts. If you need to send email through a corporate mail server, you can use a VPN. We also recommend using one of the many free and paid third-party mail services.
Private cloud
What is PCS?
PCS (Private Cloud Solution) is VPSie's private cloud networking offering. In short, we dedicate a firewall to each client. Once you enable PCS in a datacenter, you immediately get a dedicated firewall with NAT options, selective internet access for private VPSies, port forwarding, additional public IPs, source NAT, destination NAT, 1:1 NAT, port blocking, inbound traffic controls and firewall rules.
Account and support
What support does VPSie offer?
Technical support is available 24/7/365 through live chat in the VPSie control panel or by email at [email protected]. Our team helps with each customer's needs, and we will never sell you anything you do not need.
I have a suggestion. Where do I send it?
If you have ideas for improving VPSie, email [email protected]. If we publish your idea, you may be rewarded with a payment or account credit as thanks for your effort.
