How to Install The Latest Eclipse in Ubuntu 16.04, 15.10

Eclipse is an integrated development environment (IDE) used in computer programming and is the most widely used Java IDE. It contains a base workspace and an extensible plug-in system for customizing the environment. Eclipse is written mostly in Java and its primary use is for developing Java applications, but it may also be used to develop applications in other programming languages via plug-ins.

Eclipse requires Java 7 or 8 so you need first to install it. You can install it by searching OpenJDK Java 7 or 8 in Software Center. After installing Java, download Eclipse by following this link.

Note: Before you download, be sure to check your OS type.

When your download is finished run the installer wizard. After select install item for what you want, then installation folder in your server and finally click Install.

You have successfully installed Eclipse in Ubuntu.

But you need a launcher shortcut, so you can do it by running this command in Terminal:

gedit .local/share/applications/eclipse.desktop

Terminal=false
Icon=/home/USERNAME/java-mars/eclipse/icon.xpm
